Dear Fahrenheit 451, written by true librarian Annie Spence, has two parts. Part one contains her letters and break-up notes to a variety of books in her life. Part two contains her writings/musings on a slew of literary topics. These are absolutely peppered with book suggestions.
Here's a little of what Amazon has to say...
"A librarian's laugh-out-loud funny, deeply moving collection of love letters and breakup notes to the books in her life."
I agree with Amazon. This book is laugh-out-loud funny. In my opinion, however, its humor landed much too heavily on the snarky side. This eventually turned me off. What also turned me off was the language. There is quite a bit of bad language in this book, as well as some sexually explicit content. (I skipped a letter or two. If you know me, and you read this book, you'll easily be able to tell which ones.) Where I don't agree with Amazon is in their use of the words "deeply moving". I was hoping to be deeply moved, but I never was. Ultimately, I think this is why this book fell short for me, despite its great cover and premise. I wanted something deeply moving and sentimental. For me, it wasn't that.
Overall, if you love books, love a good amount of snarkiness and don't bat an eye at bad language, (or at least a heavy dose of bad language,) I think you will love this book. It just wasn't for me.
My personal rating: 2.5/5 stars
